The natural disasters that take place every year across the globe are many; some of them have a lower severity, while others are so devastating that they can level entire towns or cities, leaving in their path death and destruction.
In 2017 it was Mexico that had to bear the fury of mother nature with earthquakes that have left hundreds dead and thousands of affected families. But in this case, companies and individuals have approached willing to help through their work or donations.
One such aid has come from Bitso, a Mexican exchange that is used to trade digital currencies, which has created a relief campaign. Until now, one point two million pesos have been collected in digital currencies; this aid has arrived from all over the world.
In light of the second earthquake of September 19 when the cities of Morelos, Puebla and Mexico were hit, the Bitso company has decided to continue with a second campaign with a duration of four extra weeks. The company will obtain no benefits from the transactions performed during these campaigns; on the contrary, it has decided to chip in by providing an additional 50% of the donations made from September 19 through 25.
Bitso thanks all donors and those who have participated in the promotion of the campaign on social networks. It also thanks and admires everyone who has volunteered on the streets and those who helped people who were affected the most in a number of ways.
As of September 24, the following amounts have been collected:
- 179 Bitcoin donations amounting up to 10.28661568 BTC
- 94 Ethereum donations amounting up to 26.23848868 ETH
- 51 Ripple donations amounting up to 7,829.16 XRP
For a grand total of 1,223,688 pesos, out of which 50 percent has been transferred to the Mexican Red Cross and the rest will be provided to another institution.
Transactions made through Bitso are transparent, you can verify at the moment the transaction is made whether your money arrived or not, and its location. The company highlights the growth digital currencies such as Bitcoin are experiencing.
